I started training in 2015 as a way to spend time with my dad. I wouldn’t say I was hooked immediately like a lot of people are, I definitely struggled with being a young 50kg women in a club full of men. I still have ups and downs but sticking to Jiu Jitsu is definitely the best decision I’ve made! I am now black belt and a sponsored athlete. I teach multiple classes per week, including mixed gender classes, the women's only class and the kids classes. Outside of Jiu Jitsu I work as a psychologist and I am especially interested in the relationship between mental health and training Jiu Jitsu. I believe Jiu Jitsu is an extremely mindful activity, as well as being a social community! My goal now is to continue to work with Rebellion BJJ in order to cultivate the friendly inclusive environment we have established. Jiu Jitsu has not only made me feel more able to defend myself but it has also improved my self confidence and given me the opportunity to make some great friends! It is a sport that everyone should feel comfortable to try.
